Doubting Hockney

In 1983-84, the Hayward Gallery in London mounted an exhibition of David Hockney’s photographs, particularly featuring the photo-collages which he called ‘joiners’.

Large claims were made for this work, not least by the artist himself, and this review, published in Creative Camera in February 1984, was written in reaction to those claims.

Now, though, I might add that I find the ‘joiners’ both enjoyable and instructive.
