Bargoed to Bargoed
For a long time, I have been interested in the relationship between two images of the same place: the Valleys town of Bargoed. Made from the same vantage point, L S Lowry’s 1965 painting and John Davies’ 1984 photograph are nevertheless very different.
In 2024, I developed a discussion of these images into a full-length essay, augmented by other photos of the place and a discussion of the Valleys Project (see also ‘Valley Visitors’).
I sent a copy of the essay to Brian Carroll, publisher of Offline photography magazine, and he was happy to produce it as a one-off 16pp. publication in the series of Offline Essays. Copies priced £4 can be bought from that site: offlinejournal.bigcartel.com.
