A version of my lecture on the ‘short history’ of surrealist photography was delivered at Concordia University, Montreal, on November 14 2014. My thanks go to Martha Langford for the invitation.

This presentation differed from my professorial lecture in that it contained short sketches of how the reputations of photographers such as Man Ray and Henri Cartier-Bresson, Claude Cahun and Eli Lotar have shifted over the past couple of decades. I hope to develop these into a fuller assessment in the near future.
