International Encyclopedia

Co-ordinated by Michael Richardson as General Editor and published by Bloomsbury, the three volume International Encyclopedia of Surrealism is an invaluable reference book for the subject, covering both general areas of concern as well as the work of individual surrealists of note. For details, see www.bloomsbury.com

Each entry was written by an expert on the subject and I contributed seven essays. One was a general study of ‘Photography and Surrealism’, updating my previous summations of the subject.

I also wrote five 2000 word essays on individual artists: Humphrey Jennings, Lee Miller, Jean Painlevé, Manuel Alvarez Bravo and Frederick Sommer. In addition, I co-authored the essay on Paul Nash with Krzysztof Fijalkowski.

In addition, I provided a few illustrations, including a variant of the photo here, showing the urn containing the Freuds’ ashes in Golders Green Crematorium.
