Andreas Gursky: Two Reviews
I have written twice about the work of Andreas Gursky, some 23 years apart, and I have placed both the texts here to illustrate how the issues surrounding his work have developed and, in some respects, changed.
The first review was for the London-based art magazine Untitled and covered his first one-person exhibition in the UK at Tate Liverpool in 1995.
The second was in Source magazine in 2018 and was a response to his one-person show in London at the newly reopened Hayward Gallery.
The photograph to the right shows a large blow-up of Gursky’s photograph ‘Tokyo 2017’ mounted next to Waterloo Bridge.
